Credit Card Review The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®, one of several Citi® AAdvantage® credit cards offered by Citibank, is designed for those with very good credit who travel regularly on American Airlines. Through the reward program, cardholders earn one mile for every dollar spent on the card. Miles can be redeemed for hotel stays, car rentals, and free travel via American Airlines and participating partners. The card has a maximum of 100,000 miles that can be accumulated each year; however, Advantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage® Platinum®, and AAdvantage® Gold® members are excluded from this limit. AAdvantage® miles may never expire.At first glance it may be difficult to distinguish between all of the Citi® AAdvantage® credit cards due to their close similarities. This platinum card has minor differences, such as offering 25,000 bonus miles for the first $750 in purchases made within four months. There is also no 'pre-set spending limit', which simply means that cardholders can occasionally exceed their credit limit based on their payment history and credit score.The APR for purchases is above average for a reward card. The annual fee of $85 is slightly high, but it is waived for the first year. In addition, there is a minimum cap of 19.99% for cash advances, so no matter how low the Prime Rate falls (the APR is tied to the Prime Rate), the interest rate will not go below the minimum cap.However, cardholders can expect several platinum benefits including up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, and lost and stolen card reporting.
